Director Nayer Paknia

Nayer Paknia’s work is sensual and thought-provoking. In an area of filmmaking generally dominated by a male voice, her feminine perspective and unique approach to storytelling is refreshing.

Born in Iran in 1974, Nayer clearly remembers her native country’s revolution and the war that followed. Always a person of action and possessing a remarkable drive, Nayer made the decision to change her own destiny. At fourteen, she left her family and country to emigrate to Europe and join her older brother in Germany, where she soon became a citizen.

In 1994, she began the rigorous five-year film program at the Hochschule Fuer Medien, Stuttgart, during which she also worked in California for one year on George Lukas’ post-production company, Industrial Light & Magic.

Afterwards, Nayer began working at DoRo, then Europe’s largest music video production company. While there, she wrote concepts, codirected and A.D.’d and O.D.’d on over seventy-five productions. Shortly before leaving DoRo, Nayer began directing commercial films. Her first commercial spot for KISS FM won her awards and immediate recognition as a young director.

Since then, Nayer has gone on to direct many recognized commercials, short films, and documentaries for cinema and television. Today, she is grateful to have the wonderful opportunity to live from the work she’d otherwise make for passion alone.
